National Strategic Plan for Emergency Department Management of Outbreaks of Novel H1N1 Influenza
This plan outlines the capabilities an emergency department needs to have to successfully manage an outbreak of H1N1 flu and provides checklists for operational planning before, during and following an outbreak. It is intended for health care personnel, public health officials, professional associations, government officials at all levels and hospital administrators, medical staff, nursing staff, and support services. The plan serves as a guide for emergency departments to address the interdependencies that are necessary to successfully manage an outbreak.
The HHS Emergency Care Coordination Center, within the HHS Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response, partnered with the American College of Emergency Physicians to develop the guide with one goal in mind: protect the health care infrastructure and ensure the delivery of emergency medical treatment during a large scale epidemic or pandemic.
